I watched “Shrek” the other day. I like watching movies, so I often do. But I have never watched this movie because this movie’s hero, Shrek, in the center of this movie’s cover looks very frightening. I might not have watched it if this movie’s review was not an assignment. After I watched this movie, my imagination of him changed soon. He is kind and cool. He is close to my image of the ideal man.
Next, I’ll tell you about this movie’s funny characters. First is Shrek. People are afraid of him because he is a monster. None of them found his real character so they were also afraid of him at first. He lives near a pond of mud and is always lonely. But he concealed this feeling because he is an obstinate person. Second character is Donkey. He can speak and kept by ill-tempered old woman. He is a spirited donkey and good at making a joke. His chatter made him a pain sometimes, also happy at other times. Third is Princess Fiona. She has been sleeping for a long time, waiting for real kiss from her prince at a tower. The tower was protected by big dragon breathing fire. Fiona looks like a calm princess in fairy tales. But actually she is not. The fourth character is Farquaad. He is an ill-tempered and small man. A wish he has to achieve for his future is to get Fiona from the tower. He is a really crafty man despite being so small. People who live in his area are made to do as he says. For example, wash hands, face, teeth and so on.
I’ll tell you about a story. One day, Donkey was helped by Shrek. Sherk lives beside the pond of mud alone. Donkey followed him. Shrek wants to shoo Donkey away. But there are many fairy tale characters in his house. They are sent there by Farquaad. He visited him to recover his territory. Farquaad has just held an athletic meeting in a stadium. Shrek competes there and won. Then, Farquaad’s ability as a crafty man was demonstrated. He exploited Shrek for his own wish and promised when Shrek helps Fiona, he’ll return his territory. Shrek and Donkey left for the tower where she was sleeping. Finally, they could help her. At first, Fiona acted as a calm princess. But the monster who is her prince didn’t understand the fairy tales. So she showed her real character gradually. Actually, she was a very strong woman. But there is a bigger secret with her. It’s that she becomes an ogre like Shrek at night. Then, they have loved each other. Donkey has known it. He persuaded Shrek to stop Fiona and Farquaad’s marriage ceremony and declare his own love for her. Shrek obstructed their ceremony and declared his love for her. Then, she decided to show her figure at night. Looking at her, Farquaad changed his attitude and tried to arrest her. On the other hand, Shrek didn’t change his attitude. Her figure didn’t change after the magic was lifted. But they were happy.
I like this movie because it’s not common. In this movie, people who are strange won. However, people who are common and chained by rules couldn’t get happy. It’s the beautiful couples that appear in fairy tales I have known. But a prince and a princess in it are not beautiful. I thought it’s not interesting all are only beautiful. (562 words)
